Gameweek 24, where megaclubs go up against bottom ranked teams. Each of the big 6 this week have an easy chance of putting away a 5-0 win. Firstly, this week Chelsea faceoff against Brighton. United play Burnley, Arsenal play Palace, City vs. Newcastle, Tottenham play Southampton, and Liverpool visit Swansea. Each of these are expected to provide plenty of points. With that…we dig in
Up top, we are dropping Kane to make way for Aguero and Vardy. There is no better captaincy consideration this week than Aguero. It’s really a choice between Kun, Aguero, and Sergio. Is it worth it to drop Kane for Aguero? We argue yes, particularly as City’s fixtures will be easy over the next 2-3 weeks while Spurs are expected to face much tougher teams (United, Liverpool, Arsenal).
Even though City lost away to a difficult team last week (Liverpool), they are still far and away likely going to run away with the league. With Jesus out, rotation risk for Aguero is also almost completely minimized. Note, David Silva was an unused substitute last weekend and could see a start. There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Man City’s last 10 home games and this will be no different.
Firmino and Vardy round out our offensive three. Liverpool have scored at least 2 goals in their last 6 away matches and remain deadly even without Coutinho. The side has also been undefeated in their last 14 matches. Sturridge is a doubt for the weekend, posing little threat to Firmino’s spot. Swansea continue to be the worst side in the league, which should open plenty of opportunities for Liverpool fantasy assets this week.
Vardy and Leicester look to face Watford this week. Watford have hit a poor run of form, losing 6 of their last 7 away matches. The side has also been leaky defensively, conceding at least 2 goals in their last 3 matches. Vardy, as a lone striker, should be a decent midpriced option this week. We would prefer a mid-8 midfielder with Aguero in lieu of Kane + someone who is priced in the high-4’s or low 5’s.
In midfield, we think Arnautovic, Salah, Sterling, and Lingard are strong options. Arnautovic and West Ham are at home to Bournemouth. With Andy Carroll, still sidelined, Arnie is expected to be setup as the main center-forward/striker, creating a nice out of position midfielder. West Ham are expected to line up with the same team that thrashed Huddersfield 4-1 last weekend.
Salah has been, and remains a, staple of most teams (most highly owned player in the league). Our only concern is he has faced an illness midweek. Sterling and City have an easy fixture versus Newcastle. Lingard and United play Burnley. United are still in talks to sign Alexis Sanchez, but until major announcements are formally made, we assume Lingard will continue to play behind Lukaku. United have played decently on the road and scored at least 2 goals in their last 5 away matches.
For cleans this week (rank order): Chelsea, United, Liverpool, City, Everton, Tottenham and Stoke are expected to have the best odds for keeping clean sheets. Unsurprisingly, the likes of Alonso, DeGea, VVD, Otamendi, etc will be among the favorites for defenders this week.
