Romelu Lukaku has been ruled out of the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion after suffering an ankle injury against Arsenal. He now faces a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of the FA Cup final. Marcus Rashford is the likeliest to occupy the central striker role in the Belgian’s absence, though Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial offer other options. Jose Mourinho has favoured a 4-3-3 formation of late, although he could consider switching to a more attacking 4-2-3-1 against the Seagulls. That would free up an extra attacking midfield spot for one of Juan Mata, Martial or Rashford, leaving Ander Herrera’s start at risk. At the back, Phil Jones could make a return, while Mourinho has revealed that Eric Bailly has not been featuring of late as he is the only centre-half who isn’t playing at this summer’s World Cup. The Ivorian could also be a factor, then, though Victor Lindelof may retain his start in central defence after an impressive performance against Arsenal. Sergio Romero remains sidelined.
Valencia – Lindelof – Smalling – Young
Herrera – Pogba – Matic
Sanchez – Rashford – Lingard
