Idrissa Gueye is likely to be ready to return for the Merseyside derby after sitting out the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City due to a muscle problem. Tom Davies only came on as a substitute last weekend following a head injury, and could also return in centre midfield, potentially leaving Wayne Rooney and Morgan Schneiderlin battling it out for one spot in either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system. Dominic Calvert-Lewin may drop to the bench, then, with Theo Walcott and Yannick Bolasie appearing more likely to retain their starts out wide. The back four has been pretty settled out late, but Ashley Williams is available again after serving his three-match ban, while Ramiro Funes Mori recently returned to the substitutes bench. Gylfi Sigurdsson, Eliaquim Mangala and James McCarthy are long-term absentees, while Mason Holgate (ankle) is still sidelined.
