With another week to prove his fitness following a hamstring issue, Thibaut Courtois may be ready to return for the home meeting with West Ham United in place of Willy Caballero. Davide Zappacosta (tendon injury) and Pedro (knock) are also doubtful, and if they’re not fit to return, Antonio Conte doesn’t appear to have many options in terms of making changes following the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. After getting on the scoresheet last weekend, Alvaro Morata is likely to retain his place up front ahead of Olivier Giroud. Even if he is passed fit, Pedro is unlikely to replace either Willian or Eden Hazard in the attacking midfield spots in the usual 3-4-2-1 system. Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater offer alternatives to Cesc Fabregas in central midfield. Ross Barkley has returned for the U23s, and may be an option to be named among the substitutes. Gary Cahill provides cover in central defence, but he has only started one of the last five in the league. David Luiz and Ethan Ampadu both remain out.
