Jack Wilshere was able to train on Wednesday ahead of the home meeting with Stoke City after withdrawing from the England squad with a knock, but it remains to be seen if he makes it and if Arsene Wenger selects his strongest line-up with Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League clash against CSKA Moscow looming. Both Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey have been rested in recent league matches in order to prioritise the European campaign, and they, along with Wilshere, could potentially sit out the Potters clash. Koscielny did play 90 minutes for France on Tuesday night, but has been dealing with a back problem, along with his longstanding Achilles issue. Ramsey underwent a minor groin operation during the international break, and while he should be available, the Welshman could be held back for Thursday night’s clash. Rob Holding could partner Shkodran Mustafi in central defence, then, with Calum Chambers another alternative. With Sead Kolasinac (knee) and Ainsley Maitland-Niles (knock) both doubtful, first choice full-backs Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin may both have to start. Mohamed Elneny could be the major beneficiary if Wilshere and Ramsey are preserved, with the Egyptian perhaps poised to join Granit Xhaka at the base of midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan may form the attacking midfield trio, with Danny Welbeck providing another option out wide for the Gunners. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is ineligible to play in Europe, so he should start as the lone striker. Alexandre Lacazette returned to training on Monday following knee surgery and could see some minutes from the bench.
Bellerin – Holding – Mustafi – Monreal
Xhaka – El Neny
Ozil – Iwobi – Mkhitaryan
