After his side failed to score once again against Stoke City last weekend, Mauricio Pellegrino may consider making changes in attack for the trip to Newcastle United. Manolo Gabbiadini provides an alternative to Guido Carrillo in the lone striker role, and could also be used in a slightly deeper position. Josh Sims was preferred to James Ward-Prowse out wide against the Potters, and may retain his place in the side alongside Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond in the attacking midfield spots. Alternatively, Pellegrino could consider switching to a 4-3-3, with Ward-Prowse perhaps starting in place of Tadic. Sofiane Boufal and Shane Long provide further attacking options. The rest of the starting XI has a fairly settled look to it, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg unlikely to earn a recall in central midfield. Steven Davis, Maya Yoshida and Charlie Austin remain sidelined.
