Alan Pardew was once again coy on the injury situation ahead of the home encounter against Southampton, although Jonny Evans is thought to be a major doubt due to a muscle injury. Gareth McAuley could continue alongside Ahmed Hegazi in central defence then, while Allan Nyom is set to retain his place at left-back if Kieran Gibbs (hamstring) remains out. Grzegorz Krychowiak was forced off with a thigh injury in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, and given the short turnaround, he could miss out. So Claudio Yacob and Gareth Barry may start in central midfield, unless Jake Livermore is fit to return to contention. Sam Field and James McClean were handed rare starts in midweek, so Matt Phillips and Chris Brunt are expected to be recalled out wide. Pardew has admitted he is uncertain whether Daniel Sturridge is fit enough to start matches, but he could risk the striker against Saints, perhaps in place of Salomon Rondon alongside Jay Rodriguez. Hal Robson-Kanu remains a doubt due to yet another Baggies hamstring problem, while James Morrison and Nacer Chadli are both sidelined.
